Mary Anne Kuk

Glass Artist.
My background, (before glass,), was in pottery and sculptural welding. Things warm or hot seem to interest me. Several years ago I became interested in all types of glass work. When not working with molten glass, I am utilizing the art of fusing and slumping. And when not doing the above, I am doing lamp work, (torch). Glass is such an interesting medium. It is very hard but can be worked so that it appears soft and rounded. It can have sheen or a matte finish. The molten glass must be worked quickly before it becomes too cool. It can be large or small, hollow or solid. Lamp work is almost the opposite of utilizing molten glass. While blowing, fusing and slumping is working glass from hot to cold, with lampworking one works from cold to hot glass using an oxyacetylene torch.
Classroom experience has been obtained through a series of classes from various glass artists, the latest being fused glass pendants. These techniques were learned in workshops given by Tania Veit.
My work has been seen in several gallery shows and is currently on permanent display in the galleries of Crystal Forge, Hot Shops and Village Canvas and Cabernet LLC.
